Reagan On A 50

Rep. Patrick McHenry, R-N.C. has introduced legislation to put Ronald Reagan on a 50 dollar bill. Okay his name is on Government Buildings, Airports, Libraries, and countless other facilities. Now every time I receive a 50 dollar bill I have to be reminded of the man who said to my school generation that Ketchup count’s as a vegetable for school lunch.
He is also the man known for Reaganonmics which included the Trickle Down Theory. “Trickle-down economics” and “trickle-down theory” are terms of political rhetoric that refer to the policy of providing tax cuts or other benefits to businesses in the belief that this will indirectly benefit the broad population.- Wikipedia. The trickledown theory, where money is distributed down from the rich and eventually will make its way down to the poor. We are still waiting on that trickle to hit us.
Everyone has a hero, but for most black Americans who grew up in the 80′s like me, Reagan is not the one. The Crack Era began under Reagan. Ghettos felt the effects in ways that are still in existence till this day. How long is money going to represent the white male elite? With Obama in office, Judge Sotomayer in the Supreme Court, and many other ethnicities making head way, isn’t time to change the face of our heroes to reflect more of what America looks like today? What’s next George Bush quarters? Beat it!
